Questions new leaders/co-leaders might ask...
At least one of the adult leaders needs to complete Basic Leadership Training
(BLT) and received an appointment letter saying you are appointed to the Leader
position.

Basic Leadership Training (BLT) and Program Level Training (PLT). If you are
leading a troop in 6th-12th grade, you will have Teen Advisor Training instead
of PLT. If you do any activities that might result in injuries or plan on taking
field trips, you will need a First Aid and CPR trained adult at that activity or
in attendance on the field trip. This adult does not need to be the leader or
co-leader.

Council recommends within three months of appointment, but the quicker you
get trained, the more comfortable you will feel with your position. You must
complete within 6 months of appointment.

BLT is usually given locally. See the Training page of this website or
contact Julie Murphy. Other trainings are given through Council. You can find
listings in our council magazine The Golden Link, or contact
Julie
Murphy.

You should first try contacting your ELF (Experienced Leader Friend). If you
do not know who your ELF is, contact
Julie Murphy and she will let you know or
assign one to you. You can always contact your Service Unit Manager or Assistant
Managers for help. Attending Service Unit meetings is also a big help.

General Questions...
Service Unit Meetings are when the leader, co-leaders and other adult troop
members from your area meet to discuss current Girl Scout events, share ideas
for troop meetings, field trips, service projects, etc. It is a place to get
questions answered and make lasting friendships. Meetings are held once a month.
At least one adult representative from your troop should be present at each
meeting. It will keep you connected to experienced leaders, what's going on, and
when paperwork is due.

Yes, your Service Unit Treasurer should have this form for every troop. The
first question on the form is, "Do you have a bank account?".

You can get forms from the Council office on 3110 SW Freeway or on the
Council website.

You can register for most events using the Program Registration form in
The Golden Link. Some events can be registered for online. Events that are
sponsored by organizations other than Council may require you to register with
the sponsor. If it is an overnight stay and you register with the sponsor, you
will need to file form F-413 Short Troop/Group Trip From 1 to 4 Nights Away From
Council Sites form. Questions can be directed to your ELF or
Service Unit team.
